Winter Ready

The brightness of the male goldfinches vanished weeks ago, but it was just this past weekend that November weather arrived. The first cold always shocks me into reality. It hit me yesterday like a Mack Truck. The high was a mere 35 degrees and it was time to dig gloves out from the back of the drawer. Grey skies arrived and settled in to stay awhile.

I am looking forward to the quite and stillness of winter. There was a time in my life, or maybe it was a past life, when I loved to ski and play in the snow. I won't give up the hope of skiing Aspen Mountain, but not this winter. I will be content and happy to pursue other passions and to go into my own form of hibernation as the snow falls outside. It is time to make divine soups and reflect upon life, to take winter photos, and to get lost in books, many, many books.

I am ready. Let the snow come.

Kathleen, thanks for those kind words about Willow. You are right about this time of year, it is soup time and time to reflect about the past year. My thought about winter is to step outside after a snow storm and realize that the earth is being cleaned out for the year, I don't know if this makes sense or not, its like a purification season, oh well what do I know.

Margaret,

You know a lot and I agree with your purification theory. Purification and rejuvination will be my theme for the winter.

Thanks for visiting us! I hope you get to ski again. A winter hibernation sounds good to me.

I just came out of the hibernation that you speak of because of the other temperature extreme... the heat of summer. Now I'm able to be outside again doing all the projects that have stacked up. Isn't it interesting how our individual location can make our hibernation period completely the opposite of another.

I share your sentiments, Kathleen. I always viewed winter in the same way - time to relax, recoup, reflect. I can still do that; however, without cold weather and snow, it takes effort.

Nice post.
