The Galapagos Islands and Blue Footed Boobies

A few days ago I returned from a trip to the Galapagos Islands and Ecuador. This was the most amazing vacation of my life! Each day brought once-in-a-lifetime memories.

I will highlight some of my favorite sights and experiences beginning with, of course, the Blue Footed Boobie.

Do you know, blue is sexy?


The brighter the blue feet of the male Blue Footed Boobie the more attractive he is to the female. The males show off their feet with a comical, slow motion dance. They slowly, very slowly, slow-motion-slowly, raise each foot as high as possible as they waddle around the female. “Hey, baby. Lay your eyes on my feet. You have never seen a better blue!


Actually, the color is gorgeous! I would love a mini cooper the same brilliant blue. That would be sexy!

Boobies love to dance. There is a courtship dance...

Then, there is the dance of success. The dance of joy! Yes! The we have an egg dance!

Home, sweet, home on North Seymour Island.


We saw Blue Footed Boobies at almost every location in the Galapagos, but the large nesting colony was on North Seymour Island. Each bird is just under three feet tall and has a wing span of almost five feet. Though they waddle on land, they are fine diving machines! They barely make a splash as they dive for fish off the shores of the rocky islands.
